本片是在1969年举行了四天的伍德斯托克音乐节的大型纪录片，曾荣获翌年的金像奖最佳纪录片奖。在那个嬉皮当道，摇滚有理的年代，这一场高达四十万人参与的户外马拉松演唱会，汇集了当时最走红和最有影响力的流行乐团和个人轮番表演，台下则尽情发挥无拘无束的时代气息。观众除了可以欣赏到很多精彩的音乐表演外，也可透过此片认识那个已经逝去的美好时代。导演迈克尔．沃德利采用多银幕手法来呈现这场盛会的逼人气势，当时刚出道的马丁．斯科塞斯也协助剪辑工作，使本片在映象上的表现与音乐同样出色。
